Sales for a period: which figure, which report

Sales in the accounts is the sales line of the profit and loss statement for the period; a sales analysis counts documents instead, so the answer says which one it gives.

Example prompts

Copy one into a chat with AUTOCOUNT connected and change the details to your own.

  1. What are the sales of Company A for September 2026? Use the P&L, this month only.

  2. Sales of Company A from 1 to 17 October 2026, from the P&L.

  3. Monthly sales analysis of Company A for October 2026 by customer, and how it compares with the P&L sales.

Steps

  1. For one month the AI runs the profit and loss statement in the This Month format and gives its sales line (for example NET SALES); for any other period it gives the dates from and to.
  2. Gross profit and net profit are profit, never sales: the AI does not give them as sales.
  3. For sales by customer, item or document the AI uses the Monthly Sales Analysis or the Invoice Listing and says what it counts (whole document lines, credit and debit notes included or not).
  4. When the two figures differ, the AI gives both, each with its basis, and the usual reasons: charges billed to customers but posted to cost or other accounts, credit and debit notes, tax, and sales entered outside sales documents. It offers to list the lines behind the difference.
